The Death Buses

As this is a VERY old dream, I can't remember much of it. However, when I had it it was very vivid and stuck with me for a long time, and I fondly remember it as one of my best nightmares. :) So in here, by request, it shall go.

How it began, I can't recall. I do know that I was in my living room and every time I turned to the front window, I noticed buses going by, heading north. Those big buses like the ones that take you to casinos. They were red and white, perhaps white on the bottom and with red tops. I would see one or two go by, then there would be a break in the traffic; then more would go by. After a while I became curious. What was with all those buses going by? I got up and went to the window to get a better look. And now it was as if I were right up next to the highway, and things were in slow motion, as a bus approached and seemed to slow down and blur as it passed me, so close I could have pressed my nose to the glass. I peered inside.

I don't believe there were people sitting on the seats--IF there were any seats--but if there were seated people, they were probably in the same state as the people standing up. They lined the walls of the bus, holding onto the bars, faces wan, staring vacantly. And they were all covered with blood. Splattered and soaked across their fronts, as if they had all been in a horrible accident.

Not only that, but hanging from small hooks along the bus walls were clear plastic dress covers. And within each of these hung another person splattered with blood. They were blurred and rendered indistinct by the plastic covering, but it was obvious what they were. If the people standing up were just barely alive, then I doubt the people in the hanging dress covers had any life left in them at all.

Despite the hideousness of the scene, though, they were all calm and silent, resigned even.

They didn't notice me as they passed, like ghosts. I stared after them. I believe I watched at least two busloads of the strange silent bloodied people drive by, the second the same as the first. I seemed to be out by the highway now, and I watched them pass, disappearing in the distance. I can't remember how I felt during this dream, if I were anxious, filled with dread, or numb. In any event, I had no idea what I'd just seen, and even if I had, I doubt there would have been anything I could have done about it.

The dream shifted shortly afterwards when I found a strange furry animal in the yard and brought it inside, only to be confronted with the difficulties of trying to raise it...but that's another story. :)
