Vine-al Solution

I can't remember what happened first, but my memory picked up with me being outside the house at night. I was standing in front of the garage, facing the pavement, and there were bright lights shining up on the trees so their branches were illuminated against the black sky; I think it was still autumn, since they were probably bare. I don't remember if it was warm or cold. I think it might have rained recently though, since it might have been wet. I believe the lights were supposed to be from our garage (behind me, lit up) and porch, though this illumination extended a good way down the driveway.

I was kind of pretending a bit about my "Trench Rats" characters and wondering if I should run around the house in the dark playing like one of them. I remembered how I haven't had anything to do with that series of mine in ages and that kind of made me hesitate. Then I looked up at the trees standing to the left of the driveway and noticed that these branches extended all the way across the driveway to the other side, near the house; one tree does do this in real life, but in my dream it seemed to be a bigger section of branches, more impressive. And there was this gigantic trailing VINE twisted all around the branches and back down to the trees on the left.

This worried me. I could tell from the way the vine was embedded and twisted around the wood that it had been there a long time, and I worried that it was slowly strangling the tree(s). As much as I like vines, I like trees better! I decided I'd try to pull the vine down from the branch and off of the tree, so I stepped out into the driveway. I somehow reached the vine even though it should have been far too high for me, and started tugging on the little end of it. It was curly and leafy like a typical vine, tapering to this little end. I kept pulling and pulling.

I then noticed that the main tree branch (it seemed much smaller now, maybe just one branch and not a bunch of them) was bending toward me--the wood was breaking! Dismayed, I let up on my tugging...but the branch was already coming off, so I sighed and pulled on the vine some more and the branch came down. It didn't crash or anything; I guess its tip touched the ground and then it just broke off from the trunk and hung there. I pulled it down. (The proportions of everything seemed to be off in this area--the branch was closer to me than it should have been, the entire time.) I felt bad for hurting the tree, but I glanced the branch over and noticed that it was mostly gray wood without bark--dying--with a few shriveled leaves. "At least it was already dying," I sighed, though I still felt somewhat guilty.

I noticed that, although I'd brought down this branch with the vine on it, the bigger part of the vine was still wrapped around the tree(s) to the left, and maybe other tendrils still extended out into the branches. I wasn't sure how to remove it or if I could.

Rain Puddle Reverie

It was daytime and I went outside, onto the pavement. It was overcast and had recently rained so there were rain puddles on the pavement and in the driveway. I was dressed probably in my jacket, pants, and sandals, or else I was barefoot. I sense it was afternoon though I'm not sure; I think the family was home. I saw the fresh rain puddles and had the urge to stick my feet in them. I like splashing my feet around in rain puddles. :)

I went over to one near the edge of the pavement and driveway, I think, and started tentatively sticking my feet in it, fearing it would be icy cold since it's November, after all...yet the water was lukewarm. Not bad at all! In fact, as I just noticed, the temperature around me wasn't too bad either! It was like a balmy, just slightly cool and damp autumn day. (I can't remember the state of the trees; I think they were bare.) Delighted, I walked around in the puddle, then moved to one on the pavement. Cosmas, the cat, might have been outside with me. I worried about getting my pants wet, plus I kind of wanted to be dressed "appropriately," so I wondered if I should go inside to change my pants (they were my blue ones) for shorts...then decided not to bother. I might miss the moment if I did so. Instead I rolled up my pant legs, first to below the knee, then, when they felt like they might slide down again, past the knee. I stepped to a wet patch near the middle of the pavement and either tapped my feet in it or hopped up and down a few times, making little droplets of water spray around me. (It wasn't exactly a puddle here, just a thin film of water.) I felt giddy and kind of silly that the neighbors might see me and wonder what that weird girl was doing, jumping in rain puddles, but decided not to let it bother me too much.

At some point I was standing beneath the branches of the tree in the concrete circle, looking down at the wet pavement as I splashed, and I noticed a few big drops of rain start to fall, striking me in the head. I worried that it would ruin my hair--since humidity and water do that, in real life--I'm very hypersensitive about my hair and it frizzes very easily. I looked up and felt bad about having to go in...but then for some reason I decided not to let it bother me. I would stay outside as long as I wished, and not even worry about my hair. :) I considered jumping in another puddle and getting my feet wet anew. This dream was very peaceful.
