Porn For Kids & Spartans A'Plenty

This is just in bits and snippets.

I appeared to be shopping with Ma at what might have been Wal-Mart. Only there seemed to be other people with us, and the people kept changing. It's hard to explain. Everything felt normal in the dream but in real life it would have been chaotic and made no sense whatsoever. I can't even remember the order of these.

In part I went into a school supplies aisle or some such (the layout was MUCH different from our Wal-Mart, like the aisles faced the wrong way--like the old B&C supermarket, before Glen's took it over), looking for interesting crafting things. I located some little kiddie journals or diaries hanging on hooks closer to the right end when facing the aisle wall (probably facing the front of the store). They were maybe 5x4", just little things, and maybe 5/8" thick. They were wrapped in plastic packaging and there were three or four of them. I remembered in the dream that I had a deep hot pink one at home (not true). In real life I usually get one kind of each kind of journal I can afford; the ones here were light pink, lavender, and yellow, I think; I believe there were two of one color, maybe the light pink. All pastels. I made sure I didn't have any of these already--I only had a hot pink one--and decided I would get one of each, which would leave one remaining on the hook. I don't remember if I pulled them off then or decided to come back later. They were just cheap little kiddie things, but I was thrilled to find them since I love collecting journals to write in, someday. Their size reminds me of a little brown and gold diary I had long ago that I tried to keep but which didn't last very long since I hate the diary format.

At another point I was in a school supplies aisle, yet it was a different one, facing the opposite direction (if the first had been parallel to the front of the store, which it seemed to be, this would have been perpendicular). I sense this was further to the right of the other aisle when facing the back of the store from the front. Near the left end of this, when facing the aisle wall, I located binder folders, like those kids and teens can use for school--all different colors and designs. They were in those metal barred basket-type things that are set into the wall for holding items. I think I noticed that somebody had changed their mind about purchasing another little journal as it sat out of place in this aisle atop some other things, still wrapped in plastic. I seemed to look at some other things and then turned my attention to the folders to see if they had anything interesting. With me now was a group of young kids--I specifically seem to remember a little nerdy boy with blond tousled hair and big black goofy glasses, maybe like Jonathan Lipnicki--they were of different ages and sizes, boys and girls, maybe a young teen or two among them, and they were just standing around here talking and looking. I sensed they were with me but I didn't mind; in fact, oddly enough, I rather liked them. We kind of ignored each other though as I looked at the folders, which were up a little higher than eye level. There were some brightly colored Lisa Frank-style ones that I was interested in, maybe some by the man who does paintings of seascapes and whales and wild animals; and then I noticed something that looked like an Archie comic folder--you know, Betty and Veronica and Archie and Jughead and such--only it was...pornographic!! O_O I can't remember who, but two of the characters on it were...hm, engaged in sexual relations, in what's known as the "doggy-style" position! :O The folder was in black and white with lots of light gray. I stared at this in disbelief while the kids chattered and poked around me. On further inspection I noticed another folder (they were just kind of haphazardly tossed in here in no particular order) with cartoon dogs, and two of them, as well, were engaged in sex in this same position. I might have seen another such folder--not all of the folders were pornographic, but those that were always seemed to feature two characters engaged in sex in the same position. I could not BELIEVE they had these on display in the KIDS' SCHOOL SECTION!

I kind of nervously shifted my eyes toward the kids with me, wondering if they'd seen yet, then back to the folders, rather fascinated as well as repelled. I still wanted to look through the folders--not really to look at the porn, but just to find ones that I wanted to buy--but I was concerned about these kids seeing these pictures. I couldn't understand why such images would be on open display in an area of the store kids were likely to visit--much less why such images were on BINDER FOLDERS in the first place! I really had no idea what to do--as pulling the kids away would draw their attention to something being amiss, yet continuing to stand here and look through the folders might expose them to the images as well. What to do?

At last one of the older kids, maybe a young teen who resembled Jonathan Lipnicki or someone I knew in elementary school, Jason E.--turned toward the folders and noticed them. I kind of looked at him and might have murmured something about the folders; I was expressing my surprise and dismay that he'd had to see them, or something. In response, he grabbed one of the pornographic folders, waved it a little, and nonchalantly said, "Oh, yeah; we know they're here." Then he tossed it back and continued talking with the other kids, who I think moved on on their own to look at something more interesting. I could not believe it.

These kids KNEW the sex pictures were there--they just didn't care! I was the only one making a big deal out of it! o_o; That was quite a realization.

I think I walked through at least one more aisle with Ma, including her urging me to hurry up and finish shopping, but I can't remember what was in it. At last I ended up in a sort of back section of the store which, if it were Glen's, would have been in the area of the China 1 restaurant. It was dim as the lights were shut off but there was still light coming in from the rest of the store and I knew I was allowed to wander around and browse. I had a sort of "rushed" feeling as I knew I should gather up the things I wanted to purchase for the upcoming trip to the checkout--there were those three journals I wanted to get, plus some other related things I was excited about buying--but I really wanted to see what was in here. To my surprise I noticed some smallish shelves loaded with books. I peered at these curiously before remembering--the public library was renovating or expanding or some such, and in the meantime the books had been temporarily moved here, into the store. O_o The only thing that puzzled me was the fact that there were just a few short shelves and not NEARLY enough books to indicate that the library's entire contents had been shifted here. That confused me. Though as I looked a few more shelves (still not enough though) showed up. This section of the store was carpeted and felt like a sporting goods section or something.

I kind of wanted to look at the books--they were just like library books, mostly hardcover, older, slightly battered--and I think I saw a few subjects of interest, but I can't remember them now, and I wanted to see what else was in here. I couldn't buy the books anyway. :P I think there were some other things, but then I noticed, closer to the door and to my left when I faced the left side ("back") of the room on entering, a glass display shelf like one used for jewelry. I went over to this and peered inside and was surprised to see a whole collection of vintage Spartan memorabilia. By Spartan I mean the Michigan State University Spartans, whose team colors are green and white--so most of this stuff featured those colors. It was all sorts of small items like pins, patches, yearbooks, little decorations, etc. Most of them were older, and many featured the stylized Spartan helmet with plume; the older ones were in a different style, so I could see how this logo had changed over the years. One item in particular, a pin or badge or patch or something, had the Spartan helmet only it was longer, more elegant, and had this LONG curving plume blowing out behind it, almost like Art Deco or Art Nouveau or something. It seemed to be made of brass. I also seem to remember a cream-colored or offwhite yearbook, maybe with an old picture inset into it. I kept seeing the green and white and the Spartan helmet everywhere in here, and all I could think was:

"Ohhh, I should get Ma in here. She'd LOVE seeing THESE!"

Well--not really. The fact is, the first person I thought of when I saw these was my brother who now lives in Georgia, but is a rabid MSU fan. He collects everything with the Spartan logo and the green and white that he can, and so of course, whenever Ma sees something small and affordable featuring this team, she buys it to send to him. So of course, whenever I see such items, I bring them to her attention, because I like making them happy and being useful. Since my brother is such a big fan, and since it's U of M Wolverines products that seem to be more popular around here, it's gotten difficult to find him anything new to add to his collection. o_o

I sensed these items in my dream were not, unfortunately, for sale; they were older vintage items, meant for display only in this case. However, I still thought Ma would get a kick out of looking at them and maybe describing them to my brother later; and maybe if we looked hard enough we could find something that was for sale? There had to be a reason why this display was here, after all.

I think the dream ended around there; maybe I was able to call Ma toward the room, but I don't think she ever got to see the display. If she did, she didn't show much interest as the items weren't for sale. She would have been more interested in us finishing shopping and heading home.
