The World Trade Center Tour

Earlier dream; exact date, early/mid-November.

It only took me two months to have my first dream about the World Trade Center. This was a while ago, so it's very vague by now, though it was already vague when I woke up.

In the dream, I was with a tour group of some sort and we were going on a tour of the ruins of the World Trade Center. For some reason this had become a favorite pastime of people to explore what there was to see. I'm not sure if they were still cleaning it up, or leaving what was there to bring in the visitors. Rather lurid, I know. But we were more awed than ashamed.

The way it started out, however, was with me being online looking for a particular website; Ma may have been with me. In real life before this, I had seen a link to a site for "Sept. 11 jokes." I had refrained from visiting as I didn't want to read jokes at the expense of the victims, but judging from the replies I read to the link, it was jokes at the expense of the terrorists. I still didn't visit, but in my dream I was trying to find this or a similar site. I came to a website that offered a virtual map of the WTC and surrounding area, and if you clicked on an area it would take you to a sort of information area for that part of the site. An interactive map, that is to say. I felt that the more I clicked around, the deeper I would go, and the thought intrigued me. I'd take a virtual tour of the ruins.

...The dream shifted, and now it was a real tour, instead. I believe a woman was leading us, and I seem to remember us being dressed in heavy coats and such. I also seem to remember charred mangled rubble, but only vaguely, and then we had gone inside and there was this whole building underground, under the ruins. We may have taken a sort of elevator and then we were walking through this nice carpeted hallway in a fancy British-style house. o_o How did all of this end up under the WTC? I think they put it here to facilitate the tour. Very strange.

The hallway we were in wasn't lit and had these dark wood-panelled walls, but we came to a sort of parlor with warm lighting, cream-colored walls, nice plush carpeting (possibly red), and fancy wooden furniture. The sort of place where one would have tea. I almost expected to see a silver platter and a butler named Jeeves. Maybe I did! A British man showed up and spoke with the tour guide, but it turned out he wasn't needed yet so I believe he left. We stood waiting in the hallway while the guide told us what we were going to do next.

This is where it gets even hazier. I do know we were going to continue the tour, going deep into the recesses of the buildings...or more like what little remained of them. For some reason there were now hallways and/or tunnels beneath the rubble, where we could safely walk/crawl around. This is shades of my tunnels dreams I've mentioned before (see "The Crypt Tunnels"). I had visions of creeping along these dark tiny cramped corridors far, far beneath the ground, and the thought was exciting, even while it made you hush your voice with awe or respect. I believe we were heading off to find such a tunnel/passageway, but I don't have any actual memories of going through any before I woke up.

A very strange dream to have about the World Trade Center...
